26/02/2007 :: Deputy Representative Grete Lochen participated in the offical inauguration of the District Office of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) together with Dr. Naser Edin Al-Sha’ar, Minister of Education and Higher Education on 19 February 2007. The new building will provide a spacious and functional working environment for the 104 employees. The District Office is responsible for the overall administration of 161 schools with 60 000 students in the Ramallah district.
On 21 February 2007 Deputy Representative Grete Lochen also participated in the offical inauguration of the newly reconstructed workshops at the Tulkarem Secondary Industrial School, already taken into use. This school was totally destroyed by Israeli military actions in 2001 and the reconstruction including the administrative building will be completed during 2007, hosting 360 students. Traditionally this has been a school for male students, but from autumn 2007 two streams for female students will be opened, as the only industrial secondary school for female students in the Tulkarem district.
Both the above buildings are financed through the long-term development cooperation between the Government of Norway and the Palestinian Authority.
