Culture Nora's Sisters Seminar - Women in Politics, 8-9 March 2008. 19/03/2008 :: The Seminar started with the Premier performance of the play Nora "A Doll's House" by Henrik Ibsen, on the evening of the International Women Day 8 March 2008. On Sunday 9 March, the Norwegian MP, Ms. Inga Marte Thorkildsen gave a speech on Women in Politics in Norway and related to her personal experience serving 2nd term in the Parliament at the age of 31. Mr. George Ibrahim, General Director of Al Kasaba Theatre & Cinemateque, talked about Nora "A Doll's House" and other women characters in the plays of Henrik Ibsen. Ms. Ba Clemetsen, Festival Co-ordinator at the Norwegian National Theatre conveyed a greeting from the National Theatre - Norway. A Panel of 4 Palestinian Women representing different spheres of Palestinian Political and Social life, presented their views on the achievements and challenges of women in Politics in Palestine. Many participants voiced their opinions and also focused on the shortcomings and opportunities in the Palestinian Society today. The Seminar was attended by 370 Women from all over the West Bank. Governance Sector Norway provides NOK 30 million for upgrading of the Karni Terminal to improve the supply situation in Gaza 20/07/2007 :: On May 23rd Norway and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) signed an agreement on Norwegian assistance for the upgrading of the Karni Terminal. The aim is to increase the terminal’s capacity to handle imports and exports to and from Gaza. This will help to improve the supply situation in Gaza. Norway will provide NOK 30 million for this project over 18 months. + More Governance Sector Norway transfers USD 10 million to account of the PLO’s Economic Affairs Department 29/05/2007 :: Norway transfers USD 10 million to pay for salaries of key personnel inthe Palestinian civilian public sector. The Norwegian funds are transferred to the newly established account under the PLO’s EconomicAffairs Department. The account is controlled by Dr Salam Fayyad who isthe Head of the PLO Economic Affairs Department and FinanceMinister in the Palestinian government. + More		Gender Norway to promote women’s rights in developing countries 09/03/2007 :: The Norwegian Government has launched a new plan of action for promoting the rights of women through development cooperation.
