TIPH - 10 years in Hebron

12/02/2007 // - As of 1st of February 2007, The Temporary International Presence in Hebron (TIPH) marks its 10th year of ongoing activity. TIPH is a civilian and unarmed observer mission in the West Bank city of Hebron, consisting of personnel from Norway, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland and Turkey. Its mandate is renewed every six months.

- TIPH was established by request of the Palestinian Liberation Organization and the Israeli government and assists in monitoring and reporting the efforts to maintain normal life in the city of Hebron, thus providing a feeling of security for the Palestinian population. TIPH maintains close contacts with both Israeli and Palestinian authorities.

- The six countries remain committed to the important role of the TIPH and welcome the recent decision of the Israeli government to establish a high-level committee to look into the law enforcement situation in the West Bank.
